When You Are Competing For A Goal, What That Goal Actually Is Changes How You Play The Game

Updated: Dec 14, 2022

You will never know what others know.

You will never want what others want.

You will never believe what others believe and feel what they feel.

All you have to do is imagine what they need.

And do exactly that.

Just like John Wooden.

"Never try to be better than someone else. Learn from others, and try to be the best you can be. Success is the by-product of that preparation. Peace of mind is attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing one made the effort to do the best of which they're capable of." - John Woodman

He was only 178 cm tall and I guarantee you if he went head to head with an NBA player he would die.

But, he was an outlier who understood how to coach the 20-year-old.

His teams won 10 NCAA National Championships in the space of 12 years, including 88 straight games.

He was named the coach of the century by ESPN.

In 1948, he created the iconic triangular picture and named it the “Pyramid of Success.”

John understood the difference between winning and succeeding.

The pyramid clearly reflects that.

It teaches you that success is a journey and it requires more than just hard skills.

John brought a high level of empathy to what he did.

Do the same.

We’re living in an environment where technology is a competitor to sports and physical activity and finding ways for kids to be active is crucial.

Sport and play present limitless education and learning opportunities

If we can develop John’s peace of mind in our children, they will be able to take control and succeed – win or lose.
